Shape the Ground

Excavation Contractor in Puyallup, WA for Digging, Grading & Earthwork

Before drainage, utilities, access improvements, or construction can move forward, the existing grade may need to be opened, lowered, reshaped, or moved entirely. As an excavation contractor in Puyallup, WA, Bob’s Property Solutions brings 20+ years of field experience to digging, trenching, grading, soil movement, and earthwork around developed properties.

Move With Purpose

Good Excavation Starts With Knowing Where the Soil Needs to Go

Digging is only one part of excavation. Depth, grade, soil volume, machine movement, disposal, drainage, and nearby improvements all affect how efficiently the ground can be reshaped.

Our excavation services cover projects that need soil opened, lowered, moved, trenched, or redistributed. We consider where excavation equipment can operate and whether excavated material can remain on the property or requires soil removal.

When additional clearing or development work surrounds the excavation, our broader property solutions make it easier to coordinate related ground work without treating each obstacle as an unrelated project.

Earthwork Scope

Excavation Changes With the Depth, Grade, and Purpose of the Dig

A shallow grade adjustment and a deep utility trench place very different demands on equipment, soil handling, and working space. The excavation method should respond to what the ground is being prepared to accomplish.

Site Excavation

As a site excavation contractor, we open and reshape areas where construction, drainage, utilities, access, or other property improvements require a defined excavation footprint.

Trenching

Trenching creates narrow excavations for suitable utility, drainage, sewer, or property projects where depth, route, soil conditions, and nearby improvements need to be considered.

Site Grading

Site grading adjusts elevations and contours so an area better matches its intended use. The work may involve cutting high areas, redistributing material, or shaping transitions across the property.

Cut and Fill

Cut and fill work moves soil from higher areas into lower areas when suitable material can be redistributed on-site instead of being unnecessarily hauled away.

Residential Excavation

Residential excavation can include yard regrading, trenches, access improvements, drainage-related digging, utility preparation, and ground changes around existing homes or planned improvements.

Commercial Excavation

Commercial excavation for suitable light commercial properties may involve site excavation, grading, trenching, access preparation, or other earthmoving services requiring coordinated equipment movement and soil handling.

Digging Triggers

When the Existing Ground No Longer Fits the Job

Excavation usually begins because something about the current elevation, soil position, access, or underground space is preventing a project from working as intended.

The Area Needs a Different Grade

High spots, low areas, uneven transitions, or unsuitable contours may need to be cut and reshaped before the space can support its intended use.

A Utility Route Needs to Be Opened

Water, sewer, drainage, or other underground work may require trenching along a controlled route while accounting for existing structures and surface improvements.

Soil Is Blocking Access

Accumulated or poorly positioned material can interfere with driveways, equipment routes, building areas, or sections of land that need to become usable.

Construction Needs an Excavated Area

Construction excavation may be required where a planned improvement needs lower elevations, defined depth, or enough room for structural or utility work.

Clearing Has Exposed Uneven Ground

After land clearing services, the newly opened area may reveal ruts, high spots, stump zones, or grade changes that require earthwork before further use.

Underground Repairs Need Exposure

Some sewer line repair projects require excavation to reach damaged pipe, establish working room, and allow the affected section to be repaired or replaced.

Dig Sequence

How We Turn Existing Grade Into a Workable Excavation

Excavation is easier to control when elevations, machine routes, material handling, and final contours are established before substantial soil begins moving.

01

Define the Excavation Area

We identify where digging, trenching, grading, or soil movement is required and how that area relates to structures, access, and surrounding ground.

02

Establish Depth and Elevation

The intended depth, grade change, trench profile, or finished contour determines how much material needs to be cut, moved, or redistributed.

03

Move the Material

Excavation equipment is used to dig, load, relocate, or shape soil according to the established scope and available working room.

04

Shape the Finished Grade

Once major soil movement is complete, the excavated area is brought toward the grade or configuration required for the project.

Earthwork Costs

Moving Soil Is Only Half the Pricing Equation

A short excavation with difficult access can require more work than a larger open-area dig. Depth, soil volume, machine movement, disposal, and final grading all contribute to the actual scope.

Pricing can be affected by:

Someone searching for an excavation contractor near me or excavation services near me will see broad pricing ranges, but useful numbers depend on how much earth must move and what has to happen with that material.

Digging Answers

Questions Worth Settling Before the First Bucket of Soil Moves

Excavation changes the physical shape of a property, so owners usually want clarity about depth, access, soil handling, grading, utilities, and how much area will actually be disturbed before equipment arrives.

Q: What types of excavation projects do you handle?

A: We handle residential and suitable light commercial excavation involving grading, trenching, soil movement, ground preparation, access improvements, and site excavation. The exact scope depends on required depth, elevations, available equipment room, soil handling needs, and the purpose of the excavation.

A: Excavated soil may be redistributed through cut and fill, stockpiled where appropriate, or hauled away when it cannot remain on-site. The right approach depends on soil quantity, material condition, available space, and the finished grade required for the property.

A: Yes, many residential excavation projects occur around developed properties. Available machine access, foundation proximity, fencing, landscaping, utilities, and working room all influence equipment selection and excavation methods, so existing improvements are evaluated before the digging area is established.

A: Excavation focuses primarily on digging, trenching, grading, and moving soil. Site preparation services cover the broader work required to make land ready for construction or development, which may also include clearing, access planning, rough grading, and coordinated ground preparation.

A: Yes. Projects involving building demolition, clearing, or site changes may require excavation once structures, vegetation, or other obstacles are removed. Coordinating the sequence can help establish equipment access and ground conditions before grading, trenching, or deeper excavation begins.

We have worked with Bob three times in the past five years. He does amazing work and he has a great personality to boot. He helped us years ago with a precarious neighboring tree situation that needed quick attention. He came out the day I called, gave us a very reasonable quote and was back the next morning with crew to take care of it. Recently he's helped us clear about 1/3 acre of blackberry, trees and brush and then we had him back to compact it and level it all out so we can plant grass/clover on it. It looks SO good! He responds quickly to calls and messages, he's very friendly, his communication is awesome, his equipment is top grade and he's a pro at what he does. We love Bob and his little dog too. 🙂

Long overdue review. Didn't realize I never shared how awesome Bob is. We bought a house out in Roy a few years back. The back yard was trees and brush but we wanted a big lawn out back. Bob came out and cleared the entire area. He then used his cool grinder to grind down the trees stumps. Then brought in dump trucks full of dirt and leveled it all off with his bobcat. Soon after we had it seeded and had our lawn! Bob got it all done in a day. Didn't overcharge us. Great service. I'd highly recommend him for anything!!!

It had been tricky to get someone out to do the work I needed done in my yard – Bob was the first and only person to return my call, and promptly. I'm having a shed delivered and built in a few weeks and needed the prep work done fast. He worked with my chaotic schedule, came out and gave an extremely fair quote, and got me on the books to come complete the work the very next week. I'm new to some of these "building" terms and he gave me sound advice on what he would recommend for this or that along the way. His extensive experience was so appreciated and I trusted it completely. Reading other reviews is what made me reach out to Bob – I hope my review will encourage you to reach out to him! He really takes the time to do the job right. He's efficient, timely, and even went above and beyond to remove some pesky blackberries and move some stones from an old fire pit that I wanted to save. I have more work to be done in the yard and I won't hesitate to call him again!

Excavation and Earthwork Across Puyallup and Nearby Communities

Bob’s Property Solutions serves as an excavation contractor in Puyallup, WA, for residential and suitable light commercial projects throughout Pierce County and surrounding Puget Sound communities.

From focused trenching to broader earthwork services, we look at the grade, access, soil volume, and intended outcome before establishing the excavation scope.

Ground Mechanics

What Actually Determines How an Excavation Takes Shape

An excavation company is not simply removing dirt. Every cut changes elevation, produces material, creates equipment movement, and affects how adjoining ground connects to the newly excavated area.

Depth Changes Material Volume Quickly

A small increase in excavation depth across a broad area can create a substantial increase in the amount of soil that must be moved, stored, or removed.

Access Determines Machine Movement

Wide open ground provides different equipment options than narrow side yards, fenced areas, slopes, or spaces bordered by existing structures.

Soil Has to Go Somewhere

Excavated material cannot simply disappear. An earthwork contractor needs to consider whether soil can be reused, redistributed, stockpiled, or transported away.

Grade Changes Affect Adjoining Areas

Lowering or raising one section of land can change how that elevation meets driveways, lawns, structures, access points, or neighboring sections of ground.

Clearing Can Reveal the Real Terrain

Vegetation and old site features can hide changes in elevation. Land clearing services may expose the actual surface before a grading and excavation contractor begins reshaping it.

Excavation Often Supports Larger Site Work

Digging may be one component of broader site preparation services, utility work, drainage improvements, or development where several ground-related tasks need to align.

Move the Earth

When the Ground Is Holding Up the Project, Start With the Right Dig

Whether the job calls for trenching, grading, soil removal, or broader earthwork, Bob’s Property Solutions can assess the existing elevations and determine what needs to move to create a workable excavation area.
